RBI SLAPS BANK OF BARODA, GIC HOUSING FINANCE WITH ₹66.7 LAKH PENALTY FOR NON-COMPLIANCE — HERE’S ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has slapped the Bank of

Baroda and GIC Housing Finance with a combined penalty of

₹66.7 lakh for non-compliance to its fair practices code for lenders and KYC guidelines.

RBI IMPOSES PENALTIES ON MUTHOOT FINANCE, 5 OTHERS FOR COMPLIANCE VIOLATIONS

The Reserve Bank of India has imposed penalties on six financial companies. Muthoot Finance received a Rs 5.80 lakh fine for risk management failures. Avail Financial Services was fined for director conflicts and exposure breaches. PAN Emami Cosmed faced penalties for exceeding credit exposure limits. Satya MicroCapital was penalized for incorrect NPA classification after restructuring.

REVIEW OF CIRCULARS ISSUED UNDER FOREIGN EXCHANGE MANAGEMENT ACT, 1999 (FEMA)

RBI has issued notification on Review of Circulars issued under Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999 (FEMA). The circulars, as listed at Annex, that have ceased to be operative owing to subsequent regulatory amendments, redundancy, overlap  or  supersession  by  newer  directives,  are  being

withdrawn.

95% OF LISTED CONSUMER PLATFORMS USE ‘DARK PATTERNS’, SEBI URGED TO MANDATE COMPLIANCE DISCLOSURES

Research from community platform LocalCircles indicates that corporate governance disclosures should require “dark pattern-free” self-declarations. This comes after LocalCircles urged market regulator SEBI to do so, as nearly 95% of publicly listed companies in India running consumer-facing online transaction platforms use such “dark patterns”.

SUPREME COURT UPHOLDS SEBI’S ₹2.1 CRORE PENALTY ON KOTAK AMC, NILESH SHAH AND OTHERS AGAINST ESSEL GROUP

The Supreme Court upheld SEBI’s penalties against Kotak Mahindra AMC and six executives for mutual fund regulation violations. The court emphasized compliance over profits and upheld a total penalty of ₹2.1 crore, cautioning the mutual fund industry about the importance of regulatory adherence.

SEBI FINES EASTERN FINANCIERS ₹4 LAKH FOR MULTIPLE COMPLIANCE LAPSES IN SUPERVISION

Market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has imposed a ₹4 lakh penalty on Kolkata-based stockbroker Eastern Financiers              Ltd for              multiple              regulatory lapses    relating to              the supervision of its authorised persons (APs). The violations included failure    to        maintain                  pre-order      trade              confirmations,

allowing unapproved users to operate trading terminals, inadequate supervision of APs, improper segregation of trading terminals and delays in updating authorised person addresses with the stock exchanges.

INDIA’S DATA PRIVACY DEADLINE NEARS: ARE INDIAN COMPANIES READY?

India’s Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act is set to usher in a new era of data governance, and with roughly a year left before the compliance deadline, businesses are being urged to shift from planning to execution. Full compliance with the law, including obligations related to consent, privacy notices, and data security, will be required by May 13, 2027.

DPDP IS COMING FAST BUT INDIAN STARTUPS ARE MOVING AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS

US COMPANIES FACE RISE IN CYBER ATTACKS

Companies worldwide are grappling with a surge in AI-driven cyberattacks and ransomware that steal sensitive data and disrupt operations.On Friday, Abbott Laboratories said it was investigating two cybersecurity incidents involving unauthorized access to certain internal systems, while health insurer Clover Health Investments said it detected unusual login activity on some of its systems.

AI SUPERVISION TOOLKIT FOR MARKETS PUBLISHED

 

On May 25, 2026, the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) published a  final re port setting out a supervisory toolkit for AI use in capital markets. It aims to support proportionate, risk-based oversight while enabling innovation.

The toolkit considers the full lifecycle of AI systems, complements, rather than replaces, national frameworks, and encourages dialogue between firms and regulators.
