Google: Android apps must provide privacy information by April 2022

Google today announced more details about its upcoming “secure section” feature of Google Play, which provides users with information about the data collected and used by Android applications. In May, Google pre-announced upcoming changes to the Google Play Store, which require application developers to share the information collected by their application, how the collected data is used, and the privacy / security features that the application uses. Starting in the first quarter of 2022, this information will appear in the new “security section” of each application on Google Play, allowing users to see the types of data collected by the application, the privacy policy and the security features before installing that.

Some of the information about the application that users will see includes what data is collected, what data is shared with third parties, whether the application uses data encryption, whether it complies with Google’s family policy, or whether it has been independently audited accordingly with global security rules. Today, Google also announced additional policy changes, which require all application developers to include a privacy policy, and must also disclose data used by third-party libraries or application SDKs. In addition, Google provides developers with an updated timeline that indicates when they can start submitting this information, when users can start viewing the security section, and the deadline for developers to provide information.

Since October 2022 the “privacy and security of the application” is available on the content page of the Play Console application. Developers can complete the questionnaire and provide information on the data collected, the security features used and the privacy policy of the application 2022, Google Play user, including all data provided by the application developer, navigate privacy and the security of the application. Developers must provide application privacy policies because this section is displayed. Finally, in April 2022, all applications must complete the “privacy and security of applications”, including privacy policies.
